Safe Schools

John Dearness Public School

2024-2025 Safe and Inclusive School Planlearning triangle

Our school is committed to providing all students with a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment free from bullying and harassment that promotes respect, acceptance, and empathy.

Staff, students, parents and caregivers, and community partners will work together as a team to help make our school safe and welcoming for everyone.

The Safe and Inclusive School Plan highlights some of the key actions that our school community will put in place as part of our bullying prevention and intervention efforts.

Key Priorities and Goals

This year we are focusing on equipping our school community with the knowledge to differentiate between social conflict and bullying and to build common language across all grades when discussing mental health strategies to help us effectively manage conflict.

We are doing this to build resilience and social skills and to promote effective communication and support for students’ mental well-being. These skills will promote a positive school culture where respect, empathy and well-being are prioritized.

Key Actions or Strategies

  • Empowering students to identify the problem, implement known strategies and understand when to seek support from an adult.
  • Focusing on developing common language for mental health strategies to support early recognition and intervention. A shared language will ensure consistency and clarity to reduce risk of confusion and misinterpretation.

Community and Home Connections

  • Ask your child about different strategies and the language/terms used when there is social conflict.
  • Try practicing these strategies at home with your child and ask about the mental health strategies they find helpful at school.
